Children's Healthcare of Atlanta

The Clifton Schools serve the benefits-eligible employees of Emory University, Emory Healthcare, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and the Centers for Disease Control and full-time Emory students. Our purpose is to provide the best possible child care and learning experiences for children, and to act as a family support system. The School is licensed by the State of Georgia and nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

The Clifton School is a non-profit corporation, managed by a Board of Directors composed of representatives of Emory, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and the CDC. Daily operations are administered by the Schools' Director.

PHILOSOPHY: We at The Clifton Schools are inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy of early childhood education.

ENROLLMENT APPLICATION: A downloadable version of our enrollment application can be found here.  If you would like to be placed on our waiting list, please print the enrollment application and submit it along with the $50 registration fee.  If your child is not yet born, please provide your due date as your child's date of birth.

THE WAITING LIST & 'MOVE-UP':  At The Clifton Schools, we strive to establish a strong sense of community within and between the classrooms.  For this reason, we do not transition children individually throughout the  year according their birth dates, which would create a fluid environment.  Instead, we typically transition the children together at the end of the school year -- at 'move-up'.   The school consists of four villages:  Infant, Toddler I, Toddler II, and Preschool.  At 'move-up' (1st full week in June), each village (except for the preschool village) moves up to the next village.  Thus, most of our availability occurs in June.  After June, we have availability on a case-by-case basis; when a child withdraws from the school, we offer that space to  the next age-appropriate child on the waiting list.

ADMINISTRATION: The Director at each site is responsible for the overall administration of the School, including acting as the direct contact for parents and the Board of Directors; the Clairmont Site Director also answers to the Executive Director. The Assistant Directors assist the Director with administrative tasks and supervise the Schools' Staff.

HOURS: The Clifton School is open Monday thru Friday from 7:00 am to 6:30 pm. The School is closed all major holidays, the day before Thanksgiving, Memorial Day week and 2 additional teacher work days. For the welfare of the children, we limit attendance to a maximum of 10 hours per day.

INCLEMENT WEATHER: During inclement weather, the School will be open. The School will be staffed by as many teachers as possible, depending on the number of employees who can overcome the weather conditions and come to work. However, if Emory and CDC are both closed, we will be closed as well.

TUITION: School tuition is paid through payroll deduction for Emory and CHOA employees and via CDC Credit Union deduction for CDC employees. Deductions take place on the payday of the employee. Tuition is due each week for the entire period of the child's enrollment.

Tuition covers the provision of child care and educational experiences as set forth in the Schools' curriculum, as well as breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Milk is provided with the meals. Meals for infants consist of formula, baby food, and then strained and/or mashed food. Parents provide diapers and wipes for infants and young children not yet toilet trained.
